01 · Overview

Project overview

Meme Tap is a meme soundboard. Visitors browse short sound clips by category, search for a specific sound, play it with one tap, and save, download or share their favourites without creating an account.

02 · Problem

Problem and objectives

Soundboard sites are often cluttered, slow on phones and difficult to search. People want to find a specific sound in seconds and play it immediately, especially on mobile.

  • Make every sound playable with a single tap.
  • Help visitors find sounds quickly through search, categories and trending lists.
  • Allow saving and sharing without forcing sign-up.

03 · Role

My role and responsibilities

Frontend and full-stack development

  • Responsive soundboard interface and large tap targets.
  • Category, search, trending and random discovery flows.
  • Favourites, download and share actions.
  • Search-friendly pages, deployment and analytics.

04 · Approach

Technical approach

Meme Tap is built with Next.js and organised around discovery. The home page leads with search and categories, and each sound is a large button with favourite, download and share actions directly underneath.

05 · Decisions

Design and implementation decisions

Favourites without accounts

Favourites are saved on the visitor's own device, so people can start using the site immediately without a sign-up step.

Search and categories first

Search and a full row of categories sit at the top of the page, so most visitors reach the sound they want in one or two interactions.

Shareable sound pages

Individual sounds can be shared as links, which makes the content easy to pass on and discover through search engines.

Discovery modes

Trending, recently added, random and autoplay views give returning visitors new ways to explore the catalogue.

06 · Features

Important features

  • Category browsing and search
  • Trending and recently added sounds
  • Random and autoplay modes
  • Favourites saved on the device
  • Download and share actions for each sound
  • Blog, tools and soundboard collections

07 · Challenges

Challenges and solutions

A large catalogue can feel overwhelming on a small screen.
Categories are presented as compact chips and sounds as a consistent grid of large, easy-to-tap buttons.
Sign-up walls cause visitors to leave a casual site.
Core features, including favourites, work without an account.
